Asa Yoruba Cultural Center
The African people of the world’s many nations have an ancient, honorable, shared cultural heritage that is evident in their traditional and diasporan folkways, customs and traditions. Among these nations, the Yoruba people have left an indelible imprint on the culture of African Americans, who in turn have enriched American culture. Imported to the Americas by the millions during the Atlantic slave trade, the ways of the Yoruba can be found in diverse societies as Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, the Southern United States and its East Cost cities—particularly New York City Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
Today, after years of cultural estrangement, African Americans are rediscovering their ancestral, cultural and historical roots. They are bearing up in their character and spiritually supporting their souls. Today, African Americans are changing their minds and adjusting their perspectives to include new views of their African selves. They are reconnecting with their African kinfolk to forge new supportive relationships toward constructing a united African world presence in the new millennium.
The Asa Yoruba Cultural Center is spearheading cultural linkage in Fort Wayne. The Center is designed to offer people in America, whether African, African American or others, the experience of authentic Yoruba cultural—an experience that is certain to enhance the most important events in life, including weddings, naming ceremonies for newborn children and adults, banquets and other special gatherings.
